Patratu Valley Travel Guide: Route, Best Time & Where to Eat

By Swanya, Aangan Resort

Hairpin bends, mist over the reservoir, and Jharkhand's most loved drive — Patratu Valley rewards travellers who plan even slightly. Here is the complete guide.

The Route

Ranchi → Ormanjhi → Patratu. The valley section begins after Patratu town, with the famous ghat bends climbing to the viewpoints. Roads are good; the bends demand unhurried driving.

Best Time to Visit

  • July–September: monsoon mist, waterfalls at full roar — drive carefully
  • October–February: crisp air, clear views, the postcard season
  • Sunrise: the local secret — empty bends, golden light on the reservoir

What to Do There

  • The ghat drive itself — stop at marked viewpoints only
  • Patratu Dam and reservoir views
  • Photography at the valley overlook
  • Pair with Hundru or Sita Falls for a full circuit

Where to Eat and Stay

Food options at the valley are limited to highway stalls. The smart move: eat properly at Anovia, Aangan Resort — the full-service restaurant on the Ranchi–Patratu route — and if you are making a weekend of it, rooms start at ₹2,499 with breakfast. Drive out fed, drive back to a bonfire.
